About AIM

Ambedkarite International Mission Society (AIMS), Canada is a group of individuals with an unequivocal belief in the ideas and philosophy of Dr. Ambedkar. We take pride in calling ourselves ‘Ambedkarites’, meaning followers of Ambedkar. Dr. Ambedkar championed the principles of human rights and social justice. We here at AIMS Canada have made it our mission to advance these principles, raise awareness about the issues of caste discrimination (which is a form of racism) and bring about a social and economic change for Dalit/Tribal and other marginalized groups in India and around the world.

How and when did AIM start?

In the year 1989-90 a group of young Ambedkarites who had settled away from India in Kuala Lumpur and Brunei started coming together to celebrate Dr. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.

Founder Member of AIM

In the year 1994 this group started identifying themselves as Dr. Ambedkar International Mission (AIM). Mr. Rajkumar Kamble was an instrumental member of this group and regarded as the founder member of AIM. From that point on, many like-minded individuals came together to form regional bodies of AIM in various countries like USA, Canada, France, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Malaysia, Japan, Australia etc.

In 2002 Mr. Rajkumar Kamble (affectionately known to many as ‘Raju Kamble’) came to Calgary, Alberta in Canada for work. He got in touch with fellow Ambedkarites (Mr. Vishwanath Meshram, Mr. Major Mal, Mr. Illangovan, Dr. Raj Narnaware, Mr. Gulshan Kalsi, Mr. Babu Naik, etc.) in the region and started regular meetings in 2004-05. AIMS was registered as a ‘Not-for-profit’ organization in the province of Alberta in 2007.
